Zechariah: Your Kingdom Come!
- Details
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17th and so does our emphasis on the book of Zechariah. The prophet's chief concern is God's kingdom. Throughout all fourteen chapters, Zechariah joyfully announces that God's kingdom is coming through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The book of Zechariah abounds with stunning portraits of our Savior. Jesus serves as the prophet's Interpreting Messenger throughout the first six chapters. Zechariah calls Jesus a "Sprout" (3:8, 6:12), "Servant" (3:8) and "Stone" (3:9). It is in his last six chapters, though, that the prophet describes Jesus in much more compelling ways. Jesus is righteous and humble (9:9). His blood of the covenant sets prisoners free (9:11). He is the church's Cornerstone, Tent Peg and Battle Bow (10:4). Then, in a dramatic twist of fate, Christ is detested (11:8), sold for thirty pieces of silver (11:12), struck so his sheep scatter (13:7) and finally pierced and killed (12:10). In the end, however, God's kingdom comes-finally and permanently, in pristine beauty (14:9, 16, 17). And all of this had been foretold about 550 years before these historical events took place. Today Zechariah still has a message of great hope and encouragement for us in the midst of all our troubles. Join us this year for our mid-week Lenten series on the book of Zechariah. (Please note that there are currently not any Lenten meals being planned). This series is a result of an adaptation from a seminar by Dr. Reed Lessing from Concordia University St. Paul. In an effort to enhance your experience I also invite you to join us beginning Feb 14 for our Sunday Morning Bible Study as we will begin a brief overview of the book of Zechariah. We will look at the exciting history and theology connected with the book of Zechariah and consider practical and useful applications for us today. It has been said that Zechariah is the prophet of Holy Week. This Lent, rejoice, for God's kingdom comes to you-through Jesus our Lord!

Something Everyone Needs to Know
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Ever since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3) every human being has come into this world as a sinful being. Our sin separates us from God. Left to ourselves we would perish for eternity in hell (John 3:36 & Hebrews 10:26-27).
“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
God loves you so much that He came into this world as a human being (Luke 2:1-20). Jesus, the Son of God, lived a perfect life for you (Hebrews 4:14-16), suffered and died upon a cross for you (John 19), and rose from the dead for you (Luke 24). Now our risen Lord will forgive your sin (1 John 1:8-9) and grant eternal salvation to you if you believe in Him.
“Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved…” Acts 16:31
When God blesses you with a living faith in Jesus you will have a place in heaven. Such salvation comes not by our works but by grace through faith in Jesus (Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8-10).
“And He died for all, that those who live, should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15
Now as those who have been given the gift of heaven we live no longer just for ourselves but to serve God and our fellow human beings. (Ephesians 2:10)
